Christmas


China, Sunday, Dec 18, 2005. Christmas is not traditionally celebrated in mainland China but retailers have adopted the annual gift giving festival as an opportunity to boost sales and create a festive spirit.

Ingrid Hala, the mother of German archaeologist Susanne Osthoff, watches the news on German television after she heard that her daughter who was kidnapped in Iraq is free in the Bavarian village of Rott am Inn, about 60 km (37 miles) east of Munich, December 18, 2005. German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said on Sunday, that Osthoff, kidnapped by gunmen in Iraq three weeks ago is free and her driver should shortly be released. 43 year-old Osthoff, who had spent more than a decade working on excavations in Iraq, disappeared heading north from Baghdad with the driver on November 25.
