Resignation

Press briefing


French President Jacques Chirac gives a press briefing after his meeting with Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean Claude Juncker to prepare the upcoming EU summit marking the end of the rotating Luxembourg presidency, at Luxembourg airport , June 9, 2005.

Jacques Chirac subit un effondrement de sa popularité sans précédent depuis 2002, laquelle accuse une baisse de 16 points par rapport au mois dernier, et ne s'établit plus qu'à 26 % : il s'agit là du plus mauvais score enregistré depuis 2002 ; 69 % des Français ont une mauvaise image du président de la République. Qui plus est, cet effondrement émane en priorité du propre camp du chef de l'Etat : en un mois, Jacques Chirac a perdu 34 points auprès des sympathisants UMP (sa popularité s'établit désormais auprès d'eux à 50 %), et 33 points auprès des sympathisants UDF (35 % de popularité). Par comparaison, Jacques Chirac n'a perdu " que " 10 points de popularité à gauche.
